This class is great for relieving neck and shoulder tension and help with identifying and working with the habitual holding patterns that are the underlying cause.

Dear Krayolablue, you are not alone in holding your neck and head! It's one of the places we most often store tension and become habituated to holding. Awareness is the first step in learning to let go. I'd suggest spending some time just cradling your head in your hands, elbows hugging your temples, and letting your head drop into your arms. Then very gradually giving it a little turn, then letting the weight pour into your hands again. The more you get used to being able to feel when you're working, the more you'll able to release the effort. And be sure to breathe!
Thanks for asking about this---it's so worth learning to let go!

I must be really tense and tight (well yeah, I know I am) becuase it was really difficult for me to do these. It was hard to tell it i was moving my neck with my arms or with my neck muscles! Especailly when I was lifting my head or putting it side to side it was hard to tell! I think when I did do it right my motions were really small, perhaps becuase my neck is so tight?

Hi mrenkow,
Yes, sometimes the tension does shift until we have moved it through the whole body. Someone below commented that this video has been useful in combination with another from me, "Lower back care and support" , so maybe try it next.

This class did release my neck tension slightly; however I feel like the tension simply shifted down to my lower spine.....

I've had chronic back pain for a while now, mainly holding tension and of course computers. Combining this and Jane's "Lower Back Care and Core Support" have released my back, neck and shoulders and finally I"m feeling so free I'm dancing all over the place. I was waking in the middle of the night with pain that brought tears to my eyes. I have tried other yoga on here to mild forms of help, but these two sessions are gentle enough to not hurt and powerful enough to work brilliantly. Words cannot express how much you have helped me Jane. Thank you!
