Looking at the Physical benefits of Yoga, Bernie Clark discusses how joints are made of connective tissues that have a tendency to contract: these are the yin-like tissues. Within 3 weeks of no stress, the tissues weaken, get reabsorbed and shrink. However too much stress can degenerate the joints, so we pay attention to engaging the muscles to reduce the yang kind of stress on joints.

In my mid-50's I'm finding arthritis in my joints and have been concerned on how to adjust my practice so that I can continue without aggravating this condition more. Thank you Bernie Clark! Wonderfully explained and defiantly encouraging.

Perfect! Just realized I own Yinsights (didn't put you with that at the time I commented) and your Centre is not too far away....so hoping I can get up to do some workshops with you for more reminding! Appreciated the Metta Meditation (also needed reminding of my Zen and Vipassana background....so many tools to choose from in personal practiceand teaching....)

@Janetdodd Samuel Johnson once said, "people don't need to be taught, they just need to be reminded!"
Cheers!

Thank you for all t he information, and for reminding me of something I had felt was true....it's a fine line between using the body ( I seem to really need some power yoga) and overdoing certain movements (which are wearing joints down if not mindful).
