A blend of Indian and Daoist yoga, designed to stimulate the flow of energy (prana or chi) through directed awareness and vigorous movements. Great for people who want a vigorous workout and to experience this mystical thing called “energy.” It is a whole body work out, and will even challenge your ego. Flexibility is not just a physical quality; we also need flexible minds. The flow is inspired by the fertile teachings of Paul and Suzee Grilley. We build up to the full sized dragon in cycles and stages. The ultimate stage is dragon’s fire. Then we investigate the flow in a yin manner, holding each position for a few breaths. Finally, we cool down with the Golden Seed.

To Murasaki - your breath is the barometer for your practice; if you find yourself running out of breath, or if your breath becomes short and choppy, it is time to stop and pause for a little while. When your breath is even and regular again, resume the dance. The ideal breath is the "ocean breath", also known as ujjayi breath (victorious breath) ... it is a soft sound from the back of the throat. It begins with a "hahhhh" sound as if you were fogging your glasses: at first you can make this sound with your mouth open, but when you have mastered that, do it with the mouth closed. The sound is made on both inhales and exhales. Enjoy the dance!

In the Yang Dragon I become quite breathless. Can I continue but breathe through the mouth (occasionally I have to), or is it better to pause a while? I must say it's a delightfully demanding practice. You do mention at one point that we shouldn't stop the flow... (later you say it's ok though). Also, would this practice be ok for people with high blood pressure, or would the energy and frequency of hips-over-head be dangerous? Thanks very much!
