Great practice.
I have a few thoughts on it:
* I find the counted breaths faster than my own and this can be discombobulating.
* The comments on giving to others is indisputable; however, Americans are renowned as being very hard on ourselves and the last thing most of us need is another person telling us to put others first. AS a matter of fact, in Tonglen meditation, you say:
May I be peaceful,
May I be happy,
May I be free from suffering
before you ask for those things for others.
Even the Buddha said:
There is no one more deserving of compassion than you.
* The comment about excising negative emotions is misleading. We are born with the capacity to feel everything for a reason. I am not god, but I believe even negative emotions have an important function in our lives. Our task is to allow them, feel them, and let them go.
Namaste.
