what you say makes total sense Jesse.. I always wonder why all these ancient yoga texts show backbends with the neck pinched back? BKS Iyengar's Light on Yoga demonstrates it this way. Is it ever ok to do it this way?

great explanation. i did some "upward facing dog" or "serpent poses" yesterday and my neck feels a little out of whack. now i know why. thanks for the tips, jesse.
