A full-length bellydance class that consists of a low-intensity aerobic warm-up, conditioning and toning exercises targeting the glutes, thighs, core, and upper arm, the breakdown and drilling of dance isolations, and a short combination using the moves you learned throughout the class. Bellydance is great for muscular conditioning and isolation through sensual, feminine movement. The dance encourages participants to be rooted and strong in their femininity (even men have a feminine side), and confident in their bodies. While most bellydance movements are beneficial and gentle for pregnant women, high-speed shimmies are not recommended due to the downward pressure created on the uterus during these movements. The lower back can receive pressure from all of the hip movement, so it's very important to stay connected through the lower abs at all times and draw the tailbone towards that earth so the lower back stays long and safe. Feel free to take a forward fold anytime during the practice, to lengthen and decompress the lumbar spine.

Wow, Gillian, your shorter dance sessions plus all the other classes I take on Myyoga and other download sites, as well as my own yoga don't really cross train me for this one. I have to be doing this one much more frequently.
The lack of melody-music does not bother me; in fact, it inspires me. Maybe some day I will turn down the sound and sync in some Middle Eastern music that fits.

Very aerobic and much needed! Despite the fact that I had to do necessary modifications of some of the higher-impact moves, due to my bad feet. This is an experiment: I wonder if there had been mic feedback during part of its recording. So I will download it to see. Anyway, it hiccoughs and stops too much when I stream it, at practically any time I'm normally awake, with my transmission speed.

@catemouse. Lyn Simonson jazz arm-up? You must be from NYC. I used to take her slow beg. jazz class on my lunch hour. I absolutely loved her classes. I so wish she would make a dance dvd!! A Horton warm-up would be good too. Great suggestions.

I LOVE Gillians belly-dance classes, and was thrilled to see this full lenght version on Myyoga. But I was so disappointed when I saw that the music does not fit the movements at all. This is supposed to be a dance-class..? Please make another one, her classes deserves music that match her lovely moves :-) !

Thanks Jerounds. Yes, we were supposed to have a musician paying live as we filmed this practice, but he called the day before with a wrist injury. So as it stands now we have no choice but to work with what we can in post and attempt to match to the movements on screen, which isn't as easy as it may seem. We did have an artist try, but did not have much luck. Thank-you for your feedback.
