Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep. In this meditation you leave the Waking state, go past the Dreaming state, and go to Deep Sleep, yet remain awake. Yoga Nidra brings an incredible calmness, quietness, and clarity. Yoga Nidra is one of the deepest of all meditation practices, leading awareness through many levels of mental process to a state of supreme stillness and insight. **Important: READ HERE before you begin.

Hi slk,
'audio practice' means there's no video; just audio! ;)

Hi Isa,
Thanks for your question. It is not uncommon to have relatively strange experiences while under the trance state of Nidra. This is not your garden variety let’s-skip-to-a-happy-place type of guided meditation. This is more of a deep consciousness brain workout. One of the key functions of the practice is to access the Subconscious, the real control aspect of our waking and sleeping selves. As you journey into this area many archetypal images can show up unexpectedly which often relate to some deep seated experiences, desires or fears which may not be apparent in your “normal” consensual reality. This is why hypnosis for instance (when administered by a true non-intrusive practitioner) can unlock so many intriguing aspects of our selves. As to the yogi in the temple with the dark eyes, there is a hidden riddle there for you to discover. Listen to it again if you like and see anything “reflecting” back. (That’s a hint by the way) Also notice any physical changes in your system as you come across unusual or even uncomfortable parts. For more information on archetypal imagery I suggest reading the works from the formidable minds of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. If you want to find out more about the Nidra practice, visit my website TantraYogaNidra.com
Cheers

Why do I see threatening figures as I am listening to some parts of the meditation? For example, when I am in the deep, ancient forest I see the black shadow of a male figure in front of me. Also, when in the ancient temple, I try to see the face of the yogi but his eyes are closed. When he opens his eyes is just black inside.

Hi gaijin - I do this both in the evening and in the mornings and I have been trying to do so on a daily basis. As MYO stated, it can help you transition peacefully to sleep, but practicing this in the morning leaves with a sense of peace, contentment and calm that lasts throughout the day. It is often hard to practice in hectic mornings, but do it when you can!

Hi gaijin,
Yoga Nidra can be practiced anytime you wish to deeply relax and release, and enter a deeper state of consciousness. Since it is such a deep practice, though, for many it is best done at night before bed, simply because you will be so relaxed afterward! It can work for you in the context that you need it to.
Namaste,
The MYO team.

This is so relaxing! I'm pretty sure I did not fall asleep, but it felt like I was. I think the only time I could do this is in the evening. Is that when you're supposed to do this practice? thanks
