Vijai Sharma, PhD, after extensive clinical training in India, U.K. and Sweden was licensed as a clinical psychologist in Tennessee in 1981. Vijai specializes in mind-body medicine and has had the opportunity to observe how psychosocial stressors as anxiety, depression, anger, pain or relationship problems can affect cardio-pulmonary, gastroenterological, immune- and practically every biological function. He believes we can utilize mind-body techniques such as yoga postures, breath training, mental-physical relaxation, mindfulness, mantras and spiritual energy for personal well-being, overall health and a better quality of life. The distinction between mind and body is artificial because there is no place where mind ends and body begins.
Vijai had undiagnosed asthma since childhood which aided and complicated by history of smoking for twenty years resulted in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). He believes yoga, the ultimate mind-body system, has enormously helped him in his journey with emphysema and coronary disease and made him more sensitive to the needs of individuals with major chronic illnesses.
Over two thousand visitors come to his website www.mindpub.com every day to refer to his 600 + self-help and self-care articles for insights into emotional stressors, positive mental attitudes and positive health behaviors and choices.
Vijai has developed following two exercise DVDs for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):
1. Stretching/Breathing Exercises Adapted for People with Severe COPD
2. Stretching and Breathing for COPD for All Levels of Fitness
His DVDs have been praised by Dr. Tom Petty, the world pioneer in lung surgery and oxygen therapy for people with COPD. In Dr. Petty’s words, “Vijai’s DVD is excellent for exercising and breathing, and in the messages intended for people with COPD”—Dr. Tom Petty, M.D. Professor of Medicine, University of Colorado, Denver; Professor of Medicine, Rush-Presbyterian, St. Luke’s University, Chicago (2005) |
