I recently saw a list of the Healthiest Foods You've Never Tried. When I saw the list, I was so happy to see how many I eat on a regular basis. Let's take a look at how simple it is to add these to your plate.
1. Kiwi
Fuzzy on the outside, but green and juicy on the inside, these small fruits are worth getting to know. At roughly 50 calories per kiwi, these fruits have vitamin C super powers. Two kiwis have twice the vitamin C of an orange, and they are also rich in potassium and loaded with dietary fiber. Use Kiwi in smoothies, salads, atop your morning oatmeal or just scoop it with a spoon and eat for a quick dose of vitamin C.
2. Brazil Nuts
These odd shaped nuts are sodium free, and an excellent source of magnesium, copper, selenium and phosphorous. Selenium, a mineral considered to be cancer-fighting, is particularly good for prostate health. Eat as a snack or chop in baked goods or on salads.
3. Broccoli Rabe
Broccoli rabe may seem elusive but once you know that it goes by as many names as a fugitive wanted by the FBI, you’ll find it everywhere. Try braising with olive oil and garlic over pasta for a main dish.
4. Pomegranate
Pomegranate is a gold mine of antioxidants. The fruit's high levels of polyphenols and flavonoid compounds are thought to protect the heart and may reduce inflammation. Pomegranate is a good source of vitamins C and K, and potassium. Pomegranate juice has received a great deal of attention in the past several years from health experts as a nutritious and healthy beverage.
