Share Your Yoga Story-Jules Laville

July 3rd, 2009

My name is Jules Laville I’m 41 years old, married with 2 beautiful girls and live in the South West of England. I am a professional dance teacher and choreographer; due to the nature of my work I have always considered myself to be fit and healthy until last September when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was such a shock! I was terrified as my doctors didn’t know how advanced and aggressive my cancer was. I was facing a long journey of treatment including body scans, MRI scans, bone scans, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and my future was uncertain. It was an extremely difficult time for me and my family.

The only way of coping was to take one day at a time, live in the moment and listen to my heart. Thankfully it was at this time I found My Yoga Online; it has been my life saver! I instantly became a member logging on daily at times that were convenient for me and my treatment schedule. I could select a video to suit how I was feeling; on bad chemotherapy days I would select a lower level and short practice then on better days I could select from a variety of longer and higher levels of practice.

Joining My Yoga Online is the most positive thing I have done for myself in years! The combination of the Pilates, Meditation, Well-being and Yoga videos have all aided my recovery and fed my soul. On lonely low days my yoga online has provided me with a constant companion, a connection to the rest of the world; which feels very healing. I have just 2 weeks of radiotherapy to go and my treatment is complete. I was given the all clear 5 weeks ago and I now can look forward to a bright future.

I find myself daily telling friends and other cancer patients, ‘visit My Yoga Online it’s fantastic!’ I know many of my friends have joined and I and they continue to spread the word. And for my future? Well I’m going to train as a yoga teacher; I told you my future was bright.

Share Your Yoga Story: Milagros D

May 20th, 2009

Hello my name is Milagros D and this is my story:

I was a flight attendant for many years and a passionate yoga advocate. I used to practice almost every single day and on my days off, I attended the Bikram’s Yoga College of India where I used to live in Miami, FL. I became a really advanced student and I did not need to do any more exercise as my body was at it’s best with yoga. I moved to Orlando, FL but I keep up with my practice even though I suffer an injury from work that kept me off my feet for a while. Afterwards. I came back like nothing happen. I was suffering from really severe lower back pains, and yoga was my escape, my way of stay fit and humble.

Share Your Yoga StoryBut in July 4 of 2008, I experience a pain that I never thought it existed. I was paralyzed from my waist down, and I was taken to the nearest hospital. I remember that day as I had a Vegas flight thatI couldn’t make, and I have to tell you the pain was out of this world. I was diagnosed with Radiculopathy, a condition that affects spinal nerve roots. Meaning extreme pain in my lower extremity and weakness and inability to ambulate. But a few days later I was able to be back in my feet again and as a very responsible employee went back to work with the same trip to Vegas, a turn the same night but I was in excruciating pain.

By the time I went back to my dad’s house to spend the day there and go back out again, the same night things turned ugly, pretty ugly and I was paralyzed again. This time, it took almost 2 weeks, and I was transfered to Orlando and from there I was rushed to the hospital where they performed surgery on my lower back. A large disk herniation at my L5-S1 level resulting in significant S1 nerve compression on the right side of my leg. I could not feel anything on my right side, but they rushed me into surgery, at 1 am in the morning, I have to say it was the best thing that happen to me at that moment becausenext afternoon I WAS WALKING.

Share Your Yoga StoryBut recuperating was a long process and painful. Depending on everybody you know I’m a single 36 year old woman and depending on everyone like my mom and my dad was brutal. But my tenacity took me far. As I went back to work I encountered another issue, my job has just terminated me because they did not want to handle the expenses of my surgery that was proven to be caused by my type of physical work, involved in the aircraft’s. So not did I only was facing a back surgery and probably two good years of getting healthy again, but the lost of my 8 years of loyalty to this company that only care for expenses.

So here I’m today, jobless but walking again. I have to admit that my back bothers me about 90% of the time, but I never give up and my practice has taken me so far physically again. It has not been easy and a day like today, where pain rules my life, I still don’t stop practicing yoga. Yoga releases my body from been stiff, and spiritually takes me far. I strongly believe in YOGA and I know it will heal me. There will be a day that I will wake up with NO pain, because I will never give up. My Yoga Online was my rescue in hard times-imagine I want it to practice yoga and you know how expensive it could be, but I’m the luckiest girl alive because going to a class of yoga with my condition is hard.

Share Your Yoga StoryWith the facilities of My Yoga Online, I can practice in the privacy of my own room, at my own pace and with the variety of classes that My Yoga Online offers. I will honestly say that My Yoga Online has been my saviour. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, to offer to some of us, those who are struggling financially, or with an illness like mine (well both cases are mine) the facility of enjoying the practice with professionals in the privacy of your house. I feel like i hit the lotto with My Yoga Online because thanks to them I can keep up with my practices without a whole in my pocket. The day that I found MY YOGA ONLINE I felt a joy that I can not explain because nothing in this world makes me happier than the practice of yoga and my dogs. I still experience a lot of pain, but there is something about yoga that makes it disappear. I sleep with a lot of pain, but I can’t wait to wake up and do my practice because it takes my pain away for the time of the practice and it does makes me feel better afterwards. I know that I’m achieving the weight that I want and the body that I used to have before my surgery. Yoga has also help me to keep my stress and depression under control and that is the part that I treasure the most about my practice. I want to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to keep practicing in a very affordable way. I think so highly of your company, that respect every aspect of it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I will be eternally grateful. And I will ALWAYS BE THE BIGGEST FAN OF MY YOGA ONLINE.

NAMASTE.

Share Your Yoga Story-Kathryn K.

May 17th, 2009

Life changing events come at us in many different ways, I believe it is how we accept them and deal with them that allows us to survive.

Share Your Yoga StoryAt 29, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, just six months after I lost my mother to liver cancer. I had three boys, the youngest six months. I had been in the best shape of my life; I had a vigorous routine of lifting weights, running, swimming, I was very active. But the removal of my thyroid, treatment, depression, and marital struggles slowly added inches to my body. Over the course of thirteen years, I turned away from exercise and toward food and lost myself.

On May 10th, 2007, my beautiful grandson, Joseph Bentley, was born. He seemed like a healthy, happy baby, until at four months he was diagnosed with Type One, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, “SMA”. After eighteen months of daily suffering, Bentley’s muscles deteriorated, until on November 17, 2008, he left us alone to our tears. Two weeks later, my son’s wife filed for divorce. Six months later, my husband got on his motorcycle and left without a goodbye.

During this time, I had searched and searched for a release, a way to allow my spiritual knots out through exercise. I knew that if Bentley was going to live his life with SMA, I needed to be strong, lose weight, to be there for him and my son. His strength gave me strength. I learned that yoga seemed to offer what I needed. Unfortunately, there was only one yoga class available in my hometown, and it was during work hours.

Then I came across My Yoga Online. I found it to be one of the most informative, helpful sites on the web today. I paid the very reasonable membership and began what became one of the most positive life-changing events in my life. Thanks to receiving yoga at home, I have lost over sixty-five pounds. My Yoga Online offers excellent instructional videos that help prevent any unnecessary injury while advancing in my yoga routine, excellent teachers, and are always adding challenging classes so I never become bored.

Kathryn Now Kathryn BeforeI looked at my before photo of me two years ago. I don’t know who that person was, I am sad for her. But she is gone. Here I now am, a renewed person due to finding My Yoga Online. Unlike other internet sites, these are real people offering help at a reasonable cost to beginners through advanced, with yoga, pilates, meditation and much more!

I have been given life changing situations and I feel it is through My Yoga Online classes -and Bentley, that I have learned to show strength to others, even through the pain I have gone through. To show that spiritually, I have to be a good person to others, *but never forget myself.* I have found me…and it is so wonderful to join the living again.

Thank you My Yoga Online!

Share Your Yoga Story: Rhonda B.

May 14th, 2009

Dear My Yoga, In 2000, I suffered a bad fall when the stands that I was in at a concert collapsed. I thought my self lucky to have escaped with just a scar on my face. Two years later, the true effects of the accident showed itself - months of agonising neck spasms, punctuated with days of almost total immobility led me to have an MRI performed. The scan revealed that the fall had resulted in damage to two vertebrae in my neck.

Yoga BenefitsI visited 5 doctors, all of whom told me that surgery was the only option. When the last surgeon described the procedure in detail - the incision would be made at the FRONT of my throat and my trachea would be moved out of the way to give access to the spine! - I ran out, and inspiration led me to buy a yoga book and start my own clumsy, often innacurate, but totally dedicated practise at home.

Fast-forward seven years: neck spasms are a distant memory, as are the sleeping tablets I often used to get to sleep. Yoga helps me control my PMS, and any “blues” and has made me a better mom - instead of getting irritated over domestic trivia, I slip away into the bedroom, drop into downward dog for a little while and emerge smiling to deal with my two children.

I am going to my first formal yoga class and immersion this weekend, and I am thrilled at the idea of taking my practice to another level. Meanwhile, discovering your site has been a true blessing. Just the first meditation session I did renewed me as much as a weekend vacation!

Connie H’s Yoga Story:

I became a student of yoga about 10 years ago. During the teenage time of my child raising years being the mother of 4 young adults was a hectic time. Yoga and Pilates added strength to my workout program inner and outer. I joined a small health club and arranged my work schedule around the 10:00 am classes. That worked for a while then as the kids grew up and left for college I found that I needed to work full time to support the financial burden of having children in college. If it hasn’t happened for you yet…hold on because it is expensive.

Another issue surfaced about the time our youngest two (twins) were planning to leave for University, I was concerned that Kevin and I were not going to have much in common when the kids were gone. Now this was totally unfounded but I remember thinking “what if all we know together is family?” Can we be the same two people post children as we were pre-children? Our jobs are totally different I’m a registered nurse and Kevin is a project manager for a nuclear power facility. So I explained my thoughts to him and to my surprise he agreed to begin a yoga class with me. This class was every Monday night at 6pm. Our instructor was awesome and we both really enjoyed it. But you know it was tough to get there some Mondays due to the responsibilities of our jobs.

Then life as we knew it changed. Gas prices shot up to $4.78/gallon, the bottom fell out of the economy and the twin’s college tuition continued to go up. Drastic lifestyle changes needed to be made and unfortunately yoga classes were deemed discretionary spending. I tried to do yoga at home on my own but just didn’t have it. The idea to set up a space in the home for yoga practice came from an article I read in Yoga magazine. Myyogaonline.com was listed in the article as a great online site for home practice. I found the website, looked it over and thought what the heck 9.95/month I can afford this. From the beginning I was stunned at the depth of this site, and the quality of the classes.

Armed with myyogaonline the idea to set up a home practice really got legs. Our youngest daughters bedroom was totally empty and was the perfect spot for a home practice. At first I put my yoga mat and the laptop computer in the room and began to develop my home practice. What I love the most about myyogaonline, the depth of choice for classes was the criteria that helped my home practice the most. Unlike purchasing a yoga/Pilates DVD that I know I would lose interest in, I had a number of classes that fit any need that I had. Without myyogaonline I would not have a home practice…that I am sure of.

home yoga practice yoga at home create a home yoga space

When it came time to set the room up, I searched the house for items that could be used, (recycled). The small table that holds the candles and incense began its life as a 4th birthday present for our oldest daughter and has had many a tea party for the 3 little Burke girls. The rocks that the candles are nestled in are from another daughters wedding centerpieces and the blanket that I finish all relaxation times under was the blanket I drug from ice rink to ice rink as our Son played 13 years of hockey. As I flow thru the poses I sometimes remember when the walls were covered in Justin Timberlake and NSYNC posters!!! Kevin and I are able to get home from work, change into our yoga clothes and walk 15 feet to our practice area. It is so nice not to have to travel anywhere for our practice, There has been a few nights when Nico worked us out to exhaustive bliss. As the “yoga room became more permanent a few important pieces were added we bought an elliptical machine and a bowflex weight system both off craigslist and have now incorporated these items into our home fitness routine.

If you have space for a yoga mat then you have space for a home practice, the key component is the correct mindset and a quality program such as myyogaonline.
