Nutrition

I need help with nutrition. My goal to reduce my body fat percentage from 40% to normal range for my weight, height and age.
My stats: Age 39, Female, Height : 158cm, Weight 63.9 kgs, 40% Body fat.
Apparently by BMR is around 1100 when the normal range starts at 1350 for my specs.
My question: Even though I exercise (badminton or treadmill) every day for an hour, rigorous yoga 2 times a week and have a fairly active lifestyle and think I eat right. How do I get my metabolism up? And what does an ideal day's meal look like for me - keeping in mind my active schedule. I do not eat meat. Sometimes eat eggs and fish.
Thank you

Hello Susmita,
To support a strong metabolism be sure to start your day with some protein (nuts, seeds, eggs, fish) and include small amounts of protein at each meal/snack. Fill the rest of your plate with vegetables. Whole grains only with no processed grains or refined foods.
To ensure that there are no hormonal obstacles that may be decreasing your metabolism it would be a good idea to look into your thyroid, adrenal (cortisol and DHEA) and sex hormone (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) levels. I don't know of practitioners in Dubai who focus on functional medicine, but hopefully you can find someone. Otherwise, books such as "The Hormone diet" by Turner, "Slim, Sane and Sexy" by Mead and Lommen, and/or "Adrenal fatigue" by Wilson may be useful to you.
All the best,
Dr. Demierre
