waco, US

I was born in maryland and raised in orlando fl. I moved to waco, tx to attend Baylor University and graduated in 2004 with a B.A in history. After teaching grade 8-12 for several years I decided it was time to return to school. I obtained my LVN/LPN nursing license in sept 2009 and have experience in the ER, medical surgical, acute care, rehabilitation (related to surgery), geriatrics and hospice care. I am currently working at a geriatric rehabilitation facility and am taking classes online for my RN.

More About Me

My Occupation is
LVN/LPN on the evening shift (2-10) at a rehabilitation facility and student.

My hobbies/interests are
Reading, fishing, animals, yoga, and i'm kind of into cooking. kind of....i don't like the clean up=)

One secret that helps me to stay healthy is
I pack my lunch for work 4 out of 5 days and let myself "splurge" with the girls every friday. That way I never feel cheated and usually order something healthy. I also pack plenty of snacks, sometimes too many! I get hungry and never know when my lunch is so I munch on nuts, rice cakes, fruit etc. and ALWAYS have my bottle of fizzy flavored water for hydration.

My wellness goals are
I wouldn't complain if I were to lose weight, ideally I would like to trim, tighten and be in better overall health.

I see myself achieving my wellness goals by
Through continued use of diet and exercise. I tend to shy away from cardio pumping workouts and prefer strength training. yoga offers that for me, and getting myself in tune with, well, myself.

My inspirations are
My parents, they are truly amazing and love unconditionally in a way that is often to rarely seen these days. My grandma for her own brand of humor, she was quite eccentric, she taught me many lessons as a young child that have carried thru to today. some of my favorites was always carry a snack *she would have a snack in church during the sermon, not kidding* , to always give hugs, beauty is as beauty does, and to never apologize for who you are or what you stand for.

A little more about me
I am an unabashed animal lover. I have a husky who is 4, several cats who are all endowed with strong personalities. If I see an animal on the side of the road it is hard to get me to not stop and pick it up.

Took the de-stress challenge. It was lots of fun to do and very helpful. Now I am working on yoga for beginners with intent to work my way through all of the programs my yoga online offers=)

Loving this program so far, I am an evening shift nurse and I do this when I wake up and am able to enter the day more centered and balanced. I find I am catching myself stressing at work more than I thought, I leave and go to the med room or bathroom, wherever and just take a few minutes, several deep breaths and calm down. It has really been helpful to know that I have the ability to calm down and be sane when things are anything but.
