Downward Facing Dog is highly difficult for me. I feel bad because it is a beginner's pose and yet I can't do it right.

My ankle got better on its own. Now my right knee is very sensitive and I cannot do much of what I was able to do before. Also, I cannot do downward facing dog. I've never been able to even touch my toes... noat even in grade school. My leg muscles are much too tight. I have to hold on to my chair for any pose requiring balance. I'm going to keep trying though. I really want to do this, even if I am not some rock star yogi, I just want to increase my strength, mind and body.

Back of left ankle
January 24, 2012 at 10:15pm
Now why in the world would the back of my left ankle be bothering me? I haven't done anything new or different. I just started yoga. I am 52. I am very careful about being safe in my practice. I simply do not understand the pain. When I stretch my left leg, I get a very sharp sting in the back of my ankle. It makes working the clutch a real problem. Research starts now.

Thank you so much for your response. I am not flexible at all it seems, and I am discouraged that I will never be flexible at all. If I simply bend over at the waist, as soon as my fingers reach to my knees I have severe pain in the backs of my legs. Downward Facing Dog kills my legs. My other problem, besides leg pain, is keeping my back in the position. I don't seem to know how to flatten my back. I see it in the mirror, I attempt to straighten my back, but I arch my back instead.
