      Hello
I'm new to yoga and taking "Yoga for the Beginner", starting stage 2 today. Finding that I stand straighter instead of leaning to my right. Anyway to the question. I thought that yoga would give me energy and not make me fell tried after my session. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, its just I have more energy before doing yoga than after. Thanks :)

Hi Annette, I have more questions than answers for you at this stage. How is your energy generally, and how is your sleep? Are you actually lethargic and fatigued after a practice in a physical way, or is it a drop in mental activity? Do you do other forms of exercise regularly (if yes, what kind?) and does that leave you more energized afterwards or does it also lead to lower energy?

I love Kreg's suggestions on diet and taking the time to let your body adapt to the new movements, breathing, lymph flow, and barring any underlying imbalances that could be contributing to the fatigue, perhaps yoga is best done by you in the evening to encourage a restful sleep in which your body can undergo repair and rejuvenation following the practice.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful - there are just so many variables with energy levels! The timing guidelines on progressing through the yoga programs are only guidelines and if you need to spend more time on one level as your body adapts that is just fine. Part of the beauty of yoga is the connection to self and working with the signals that your body is communicating to you.
        All the best, Dr. Demierre

      • @kregweiss Thanks for the reply and suggestions...as you said maybe my body just needs time to adjust.

@drmiranda My energy is good when I wake up, my sleep is ok not like when I was younger when I slept thru the night. Yoga and cleaning inside my boat (I live on a boat) everyday. After the practice I'm fatigued in a physical way, my body just fells so heavy. Mentally I'm great, just have to push my body to do things, if I sit quit I'm fine.

But now I think about what you said about lymph flow, I did have my nodes removed under my left arm...if doing yoga gets the other lymph nodes moving its just I have to wait till my body adjust to all this good stuff going on.

Thanks for all the info and help! :)
