A question about my practice. My hamstrings are very tight and have been all my life. This tightness of course feeds into spinal flexibility as well, meaning there are a lot of poses I am unable to fully sink into, if at all really. I understand yoga to be a personal and meditative practice. I am keen to learn to be equanimous with what is. Yet, I wonder...considering my limitations, will I ever be 'able' to progress beyond beginner practice? Any thoughts most welcome. Namaste.

      • Yes you can, with regular practice. I had almost the same feeling when I started initially, but not anymore.
Do not try to force the body, take deep breaths and notice that it will fully sink

      • Some days you will have less or more mobility than others. Bodies (and minds) change from day to day, moment to moment, breath to breath. Enjoy each breath, each pose, ease in gradually, and know that as your body opens, it will feel simply amazing, on many levels. Wisdom will come as you peel back the layers and release old patterns. Give your body the time and care it needs, and remember to smile sometimes. I am guessing that the more tight you feel now, that the better it will feel as a gradual unfolding takes place!
        Blessings to your journey.

I'm taking the Eliminating Anxiety programme. To learn to be in the here-and-now, to calm the monkey mind and in so doing become more compassionate, happy and focused. I am an activist and want my intentions to remain loving in the face of injustice.
