More About Me

My Occupation is
I am currently a student at Concordia University. I am in Honors English Literature with a Minor in Philosophy.

My hobbies/interests are
My interests are simple, yet more than satisfying; I love novels of the 18th century, cooking, swimming, practicing yoga and lying out in the sun all summer. I am not a winter activity person, though I love being outside in the summer playing hackie or longboarding with my boyfriend!

One secret that helps me to stay healthy is
I am very aware of what I eat, yet I do not restrict myself. I pay close attention to portion sizes so that I can eat what I like and still be healthy about it.

My wellness goals are
To accept where I am in the present without any desire to go further.

I see myself achieving my wellness goals by
By loving and accepting myself, and those around me.

My inspirations are
My inspiration comes from a yoga series I found years ago called Namaste. I used to be a very disciplined person, but somehow along the way, this was lost. This program helped me find it again and put my life on a path of healthy living. I was always active but never conscious of my well being. This program, along with the women who partake in the series, helped me to set my goals in order.

A little more about me
My aspiration is to one day complete my advanced yoga teacher training with Meghan Currie and/or Clara Roberts.

I have never been very religious, but every year, I like to participate in the tradition of Lent (the 40 days before Easter). I believe it to be a good time to set a goal and try and maintain it for a month and a half. This year, I have decided to give up meat. However, not all meat; I will continue to eat fish and sea food. I am curious to see how I will be able to adapt to this new lifestyle and if I can sustain myself as a pescatarian. If all goes well, I am considering maintaining this dietary habit for an indefinite amount of time (I feel uncomfortable saying forever...). And perhaps one day commit to vegetarianism completely. But I may just be getting ahead of myself. Lent only began Wednesday Feb. 13. So we'll see how the first 40 days go! Namaste.

I finally have my own Yoga space at home! I used to practice in the family room, but I have finished painting and moving furniture around to finally have my own quiet space! This morning was my first practice in the room and so I chose Meghan Currie's "Playing In the Waves". It felt appropriate :) Its a wonderful feeling to finally finish this project! I have a feeling I will be spending all my time in this room! Namaste!

Well it has been a while since I last contibuted to My Wellness Diary. Maybe because I haven't felt like I was doing all that great.... I did not benefit from the Whole Health Program either because I did not sufficiently invest myself into the program or because I already do many of the tips provided. Therefore, it did not impact my body a great deal. But I will not discourage, and so this morning I registered for the Spring Cleanse. Maybe my body is just holding onto excess water weight and waste. So why not give it a try. I always hear great things about cleansing diets. And I know that technically, and for the best results, I should be doing one at the start of every season.... (so I hear). Well hopefully I'll keep you a little more updated than I did for the previous program. Namaste everyone.

Well I'm at Stage 5 of the Whole Health Program, and while I am discovering new articles and videos that are quite informative, I find that I already do many of the suggestions provided during each stage. For instance, I already practice yoga, drink herbal teas and go to monthy osteopath treatments to reduce my stress. I already incorporate as many fruits and vegetables in my diet as I can (though I am not a vegetarian), and I also engage in vigorous exercise, such as jogging and swimming, throughout the week. Thus, my issue arises... If I am already eating healthy and engaged in a healthy lifestyle, why can I not get rid of this pot belly that I've had practically my entire life? The only thing I can think of is that my portions may be too large... I am also someone constantly haunted by anxiety and stress, so I intend to experiment with the program to reduce and manage stress. I am also interested in the cleansing diet (which I should have done in spring). But I am told that cleansing diets are great for every change of season. Maybe I'm just holding onto water weight or something. Any expert insight will be greatly appreciated and taken into consideration! In the meantime, I should be doing homework >.< Namaste all!

Hello there! I've decided to try out one of the MYO programs, and although I would like to try them all out, slowly, over the course of my membership, I have decided to start with the healthy living program: Whole Health. I will begin my 8 day intensive journey this coming Friday (Sept. 7/2012) and keep you posted. Anyone else who is on the way to whole healthly living, I encourage you with all the positive energy I have! Good luck, Namaste!

I've been having chronic pain in my shoulders, I have tried Ashley Seargent's Theraputic practice for shoulders and neck and repeat it when the pain gets too intense. I also see an osteotherapist which is the most helpful. But does anyone have any other suggestions of what may help to subside the pain, or help me to realign my shoulders and spinal cord? I'm looking for a long term solution more so than a quick fix it that will allow the pain to return.. I appreciate any advice, Namaste!

I tried my first Detox Yoga class today, I'm really happy about it! I woke up this morning and decided that's what I wanted to do. I'm glad I did it, it was not quite what I was expecting, not to say that I was disappointed. But it is much of the movements I usually do, which I was surprised about. I was also glad that the class began with Eagle pose which is something I don't do often. Hmm, maybe I should change that... Well I wanted to share this experience with everyone else at MYO, and for those who have not yet tried Detox Yoga, I suggest giving it a shot! Until next time, Namaste!

I have decided that once I finish my Bachelor's Degree next year, I will take at least a year off before applying for a Graduate program. Instead, I will apply to obtain my Yoga Teaching Certificate here, in Montreal. This decision has weighed heavily on me for almost half a year now. I think it's time I make a deicison and act on it. I have been working towards obtaining a Gradute Degree since Cegep, so this decision is quite stressful. But I feel a relief at finally making a choice that I know I won't regret. As my teacher said to me, I'm still young, I can do my Graduate work after a break if I so desire. I just need to get this all off my chest, so thanks to whoever is reading this for your support! Namaste

I have finally received my all natural, organic facial products from Simply Natural Kosmetics: http://www.simplynatural.ca/products-full-page.php. I encourage everyone to check out the website, the products are unbelievably wonderful and well within affordable price range! My first experience was the clay mask which left my skin feeling so clean and tingly, it really was wonderful. Today is only the third day that I'm using these products so my skin undoubtedly has to go through an adjustment period but it does not seem like it's any huge shock to my skin. Instead, when I wash my face, I really feel like my skin can breathe even after applying the face cream. I'm so happy I finally found all natural products, yay! :D Namaste everyone!

It's been just over 6 weeks that I have been having lemon water everyday in hopes of it improving my skin, I think there are noticeable improvements, if anything, it has greatly helped with my digestion. I have not yet missed a day, but I plan to keep this habit going! I encourage anyone and everyone to try this experiment out, there really is no downside. Namaste!

                                              • I just want to express how grateful and honored I am that you, Michelle, have come across and responded to my diary posts. I truly admire everything you do for the yoga community. I would not have found this site if it were for the fact that you participated in the making of "Namaste" with Kate Potter. I am grateful to everyone in the series for inspiring me and getting me on such a wonderful path to mind/body awareness and wellness. It's been a year now that I'm practicing yoga regularly and I still always go back to the "Namaste" series just because it's so inspirational and encouraging. I wake up to it every morning; my day just doesn't feel right otherwise. Thank you very much for everything you have done for me and everyone at "Namaste" and MYO.

                                                Hi Aruffini,
I am so happy to hear you are on The Path and that I helped you get there.
I cannot imagine my life without it - yoga has a way of transforming you from the inside out - and with this comes a new way of living well, healthy, mindfully. We are blessed. For sure.
                                                Om.
                                                Michelle :)

I'm noticing more and more that being involved in MYO is giving me a greater sense of self-awareness to not only the foods I eat but the products I use as well, i.e. face creams. I have dry skin so I need a body wash that moisturizes, but I also need a facial cream for sensitive skin. All this to say that I'm grateful for the unforeseen impact that this site has had on my life.
