Question: What helps you tap into that yoga-vibe when you have to miss your yoga practice?
When there’s not enough time to hit the mat, we have some tried-and-tested techniques for helping us tap into our yoga-vibe.
Footwear company Sanuk has another way: slipping our feet into the Yoga Mat flip flop. Made from real yoga mat material, walking in these all day is like having your yoga mat beneath you everywhere you put your feet. It’s kind of like Pema Chodron’s metaphor for spiritual practices: we can’t cover the world so it doesn’t hurt us when we go out into it, so we help ourselves manage the world by putting on shoes in the form of our spiritual practice.
Two of My Yoga Online’s co-founders, Michelle Trantina and Jason Jacobson, have been strolling in theirs since early April. No wonder they seem so zenned-out lately. The sandals are also vegan and vegetarian—an important factor for My Yoga Online’s other co-founder Kreg Weiss.
For more on Sanuk, visit www.sanuk.com, and check them out on Facebook and Twitter @sanukfootwear. To our Canadian friends: you’ll find Sanuk at local distributors on this list.
Sanuk is giving one (1) lucky My Yoga Online member a pair of Sanuk Yoga Mat sandals.

I take time to practice deep breathing throughout the day; walk the dogs and focus on staying present; read something about yoga; meditate at various times during the day and almost always find time for relaxation pose. I also play yoga music when I'm home alone.

To me, yoga is more than a way to be fit, it is the answer to a sound mind in a sound body and soul. It is a way to challenge yourself everyday and live each day to it's fullest potential. When I absolutely must miss a daily practice I challenge myself to remember the most recent feeling from when I practiced the day before. I try to put myself mentally back into the state I was in through meditation and then look forward to next time I can practice.
When you try to inorporate all aspects of yoga into your life, it becomes part of you and so even when you must miss a daily practice, just tell yourself you will practice as soon as you can but intentionally respect your limits for the day and try to put yourself in a frame of mind most recently found from the day before.

I take time to straighten my spine, stop and breathe; really breathe and reflect on the present and how I can make the most of every moment.

I breath down to my bones. I fill my abdomen, then my lungs until they are completely inflated, hold it, empty my mind, then release -- feel my shoulder drop and my body relax down to my toes!

I try to visualize relaxing my skin; inch by inch focusing my energy on transporting breath to every last cell of my outer layer; relaxing the tense wrinkled epidermis with the clean flow.
