Question: What environmentally-friendly actions do you take off your mat?
Using re-usable bags is just one of the many actions we can take off our yoga mat to keep on practicing an updated take on ahimsa, one of the yogic yamas, or guidelines for living. Ahimsa is most often translated as non-violence or compassion, not just to other people but to ourselves and the planet. Taking small or big steps to take care of our planet is ahimsa in action.
Eco-chic company Envirosax is on board. Officially, the reusable bag co. wants to “help create a better future for our planet by spreading the environmental message through colour and script using the Envirosax eco-friendly reusable bag as the vehicle.” Australia-based company founders Belinda and Mark David-Tooze talk their walk. The couple lives with their three children on 10 acres of Australian rainforest where they use solar hot water and photovoltaic cells for electricity; a sewage system recycles waste water, watering the extensive permaculture gardens; and filtered rainwater tanks provide the organic vegetable gardens, fruit trees and the premises with water.
Envirosax is giving three (3) lucky My Yoga Online members one (1) bag of their choice.

Well indeed as a Waste Education Officer for the government of Western Australia, my life is enveloped not by the question 'What do I do?' but 'What more could I do?' and 'Where can I make the biggest difference?'. Some of the less obvious environmental motions I've been making lately; post master cleanse I have started on an organic raw diet (75% of my food intake), use a Bokashi Bin (http://www.bokashi.com.au) in the kitchen for any food waste, and support local farmers as much as possible. I have also started sending out a message to all staff furthering their knowledge in sustainable workplace practices as well as initiating a 'corporate yoga' class every tuesday night where staff only have to leave their desks to join a class in body awareness, health, and mindfulness. I think this is making all the difference in the world. : )

Re-usable bags, CFL light bulbs, re-usable containers. There was no paper recycling at my employer, so I take all paper & recycle. Keep thermostat at 60 in winter, 70 in summer. Hmm, so many more possibilities from reading others' posts! Thank you!

Avoid buying plastic bottles and use containers instead of ziploc bags to pack my lunch (although I just found these washable baggies that I need to get! can't remember the company...) Buy local as much as I can and just be aware of how I impact the world around me!

Recycle, reuse, create as little waste as possible, buy organic (and as much local as possible), vegetarian diet, no car...much the same as my fellow yogis above!

Choosing not to have kids and further stress the planet, a career taking care of people who are already here and need help, recycling, public transportation (don't own a car and haven't driven one in 7 years), eating locally, bringing lunch in reusable containers every day, environmentally friendly roach baits (boric acid and sugar).

Recycle, reuse, buy used items, and we use no harsh chemicals to clean our selves and our home! Always changing things to make a lighter foot print on the planet, our most recent change buying organic and local where possible.

I love my reusable bags! And I buy local organic, CSA veggies and meat, recycle and bike to and from work. Love it!
