Michelle Trantina, co-founder of My Yoga Online and certified Hatha and prenatal yoga teacher—plus mom and wellness business woman—recently sat down with Kymberly Williams-Evans and Alexandra Williams, fitness pros and co-hosts of the FunAndFit radio show. She shared some of her top tips for getting the most out of your yoga practice. Whether you’re a novice or a pro, you’ll definitely gain some insight from these.
5 Ways to Get the Most out of Your Yoga Practice
- Know that your practice is your practice. It’s just for you, and you get to decide how long you want it to be, how much time you have for it, and how challenging or restorative you’d like it to be. If you are going to a studio class, know that there are tons of different styles of yoga. Kundalini or Yin not your thing? Try Hatha? Didn’t resonate with the teacher? Try another one.
- A home practice has tons of benefits. Our teachers are experts at translating yoga classes into the home-based format—it’s about clear communication and the understanding that all levels of students are doing these classes.
- Do it regularly. Even if it’s only 20 minutes, a regular, more-than-once-a-week practice is more beneficial than attending one class a week.
- If you’re a beginner, or have an injury, let the teacher know. He or she will be sure to give you tips and tools to help you get the most out of your yoga practice.
- Yoga is more than asana. Pranayama, or breath-work, can also deliver enhanced energy or relieve stress.
