Glossary

Kalpa
An immense period of time equal to one thousand ages (Yugas), hence, "ageless," or "immortal."
Kapalabhati
A cleansing ritual for the respiratory tract, lungs, and sinuses also called skull shining.
Karma
The law of cause and effect, or the movement toward the balance of conciousness everything we do, way, or think has an immediate effect on the universe and this will reverberate back to us in some way.
Karma Yoga
The yoga of selfless action and service to others.
Kaya kalpa
Literally, "ageless body." The term kaya means "body" and kalpa means "ageless," or "immortal."
Kriya
Literally, "an act, action, undertaking, activity, or process"
Kriya Yoga
System of Kundalini yoga, which works through the active quality of mind to one pointed concentration or meditation, action, and participation in life.
Kumbhaka
Literally, "like a pot," or "like a chalice." In Yoga, kumbhaka refers to a pranayamic technique involving retaining the breath. Aims to increase breath control and lung capacity and alter the course of energy flow in the body.
Kundalini
Literally "she who is coiled", kundalini is a psychospiritual energy force in the body that is often compared to a snake lying curled at the base of the spine, waiting to be awakened. When fully awake, it is said to actually restructure the body.
Kundalini Yoga
This esoteric and mystical form of yoga is centered around awakening and employing kundalini energy.
